Aviation Generals Program

Aviation Generals provides foundational training serving as a prerequisite for specialized Airframe and Powerplant tracks. Students gain essential knowledge in safety protocols, aircraft systems fundamentals, and regulatory compliance required for advanced aviation maintenance specializations.

Cost & Duration

Adult students pay $2,688 tuition plus $217-$462 for books and $2,395-$2,570 for tools, supplies, and certifications, totaling approximately $5,300-$5,720.

High school students receive free tuition and books but pay $320 for tools and supplies. The program consists of 672 hours (two 336-hour sections) completed in 6 months for day sessions (Monday-Friday, 7:20 AM – 2:30 PM) or 9 months for evening sessions (Monday-Thursday, 5:20 PM – 10:20 PM).

High school students follow a 24-month track with morning (8:00 AM – 11:00 AM) or afternoon (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM) sessions.

Curriculum

Aviation Airframe Program

Aviation Airframe focuses on aircraft structure maintenance and repair systems.

Cost & Duration

Hands-on experience includes working with traditional aircraft materials and cutting-edge composites in FAA-approved airport hangar environments using real aircraft including the donated McDonnell Douglas MD-80 and Gulfstream G2 jet.

Aviation Powerplant Program

Aviation Powerplant emphasizes engine maintenance and repair procedures.

Students work with state-of-the-art equipment and real aircraft systems, gaining practical experience in engine diagnostics, repair techniques, and maintenance procedures essential for powerplant certification.

Industry Partnerships and Career Opportunities

Tulsa Tech maintains a significant partnership with American Airlines, which announced in 2024 the creation of a direct talent pipeline providing students access to over 3,000 industry mentors and guaranteed interviews for top performers at the carrier’s Tulsa maintenance base.

American Airlines also donated a McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft in 2011 that continues to provide hands-on training opportunities, along with recent donations of aircraft parts including auxiliary power units and digital flight computers.

Additionally, Tulsa Tech received a significant donation in 2024 when L3Harris contributed a Gulfstream G2 jet built in the late 1960s, marking the first high-performance jet students can work on.

Facilities and Learning Environment

Students train in dynamic, FAA-approved airport hangar repair and line maintenance environments at the 801 E. 91st Street Riverside Campus, working with state-of-the-art equipment and real aircraft systems including the donated MD-80 and Gulfstream G2.

The facility maintains comprehensive safety protocols requiring specific equipment including approved safety glasses, ear defenders, and respirators, while operating under strict attendance policies requiring 90% attendance for course completion.

The campus features specialized testing centers, on-site FAA computerized knowledge testing capabilities, and access to Designated Mechanic Examiners, with students achieving 90% minimum scores on achievement tests before progressing to FAA certification examinations.

Career Outcomes and Employment

Graduates become eligible for FAA Airframe and/or Powerplant certification upon successful completion, with the A&P mechanic certificate recognized throughout the United States and many foreign countries.

The strong industry demand is evidenced by American Airlines’ recent announcement of over 300 new maintenance jobs at its Tulsa base, supported by a $22 million state grant and representing part of nearly 500 aviation jobs created across multiple American Airlines locations.

Students completing the entire AMT career major with at least a 3.75 GPA receive Honor Roll certificates, while those achieving 4.0 GPAs earn Director’s Honor Roll recognition, and the school conducts follow-up surveys approximately four months after graduation to track employment, income, and certification status.
