The Miami area has three FAA-certificated A&P programs: George T. Baker Aviation Technical College near Miami International Airport, Universal Technical Institute in Miramar and Broward College in Pembroke Pines. Baker and Broward cost Florida residents about $6,000–$7,100 for both ratings; UTI is $53,095. Aviation Institute of Maintenance has no Miami campus.

Charlotte Technical College (Punta Gorda) and Lorenzo Walker Technical College (Naples) are on Florida’s Gulf Coast, about two to three hours from Miami.


What A&P School Costs in Miami

George T. Baker charges Florida residents $2.56 per clock hour ($10.25 out of state), plus $20 per trimester in application and ID fees. If General hours carry over, both ratings total about 2,250 hours and $5,760 in tuition. The district estimates the Powerplant program alone at about $4,500 with materials.

Broward College charges $117.90 per credit for residents and $373 out of state: about $7,074 or $22,380 for the 60-credit A&P path, plus course lab fees.

UTI Miramar lists $53,095 for students enrolling from August 2026 (tuition $52,120 including books, plus registration, lab, equipment and laptop fees) and covers up to $2,000 in FAA test fees for graduates who qualify.


The Schools

George T. Baker Aviation Technical College

Baker, part of Miami-Dade County Public Schools, trains at 3275 NW 42nd Ave near Miami International Airport. Its graduates took 582 FAA written tests in the latest report, more than any other South Florida school, and passed 85.2%.

  • Programs: Aviation Airframe Mechanics and Aviation Powerplant Mechanics, 1,350 clock hours each; avionics separately.
  • Schedule: day (7:30 a.m.–1 p.m.) or evening (5–10:30 p.m.), Monday–Friday, full or part time.
  • Starts: each trimester: August 13, 2026; January 4, 2027; April 19, 2027.
  • Aid: Pell Grants, the GI Bill, VR&E and Florida Prepaid.

Universal Technical Institute – Miramar

UTI’s Miramar campus at 2601 SW 145th Ave opened in 2022, and its A&P program received FAA approval in February 2024. The A&P Technician diploma covers 1,950 clock hours (69 credits) in 78 weeks, with books included. UTI is ACCSC-accredited and accepts federal aid.

Broward College

Broward’s Emil Buehler Aviation Institute teaches the 60-credit A&P path at its South Campus and Aviation Annex in Pembroke Pines, near North Perry Airport. Choose the traditional format (about 18–19 months, 7:30 a.m.–2:15 p.m. or 5:05–11:59 p.m.) or the 13-month express format (Tuesday–Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.). An 83-credit associate degree in aviation maintenance management is also available.

Gulf Coast options

Charlotte Technical College trains at Punta Gorda Airport ($14,130 for both ratings including tools), and Lorenzo Walker Technical College in Naples lists $15,566 including tools and FAA written tests.
