Chattahoochee Tech Aviation Mechanic Programs

Chattahoochee Technical College is the newest FAA-certificated A&P program in metro Atlanta. It trains mechanics at a purpose-built academy beside Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport, and it is the only public program in Georgia we found with a published night option.

Our Take

Chattahoochee Tech fits a Georgia resident in west or northwest metro Atlanta who wants a low-cost A&P credential and can commit to a cohort schedule. With the HOPE Grant, tuition for the certificate is covered and you pay mainly fees, books and tools. The trade-off is newness: the program was certified in April 2025, so it has no FAA pass-rate history yet, and cohorts start only in fall and spring.

Programs and Costs

All three credentials prepare you for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant exams. The certificate is the fastest and cheapest route; the diploma and AAS add general education.

Tuition is $107 per credit hour for Georgia residents in 2026-27 ($214 out of state), capped at 15 credits per term. Mandatory fees are $486 per semester plus a $50 AVMT supply fee; the college does not make clear whether the supply fee is per course or per term.

What You Will Actually Pay

For the day-cohort certificate starting in fall, the college’s day cohort program map puts tuition at about $7,062 after the 15-credit cap, plus $2,430 in fees over five semesters, for about $9,492. The night cohort spreads the same credits over six semesters, which lowers the cap benefit and adds a sixth semester of fees, for about $10,620.

A Georgia resident eligible for the HOPE Grant has tuition covered at $107 per credit hour, leaving roughly $2,400–$2,900 in fees plus books, tools and the AVMT supply fee. The aviation certificate and diploma are on the 2026-27 HOPE Career Grant list, which adds a flat award each term. HOPE does not cover the AAS.

FAA testing is extra. Budget roughly $500–$600 for the three written tests and $1,000–$1,600 or more for the oral and practical exam. These are typical national ranges, not official FAA fees.

Curriculum

The AM24 certificate covers the full FAA Part 147 curriculum in 1,695 contact hours: general topics such as regulations, math, physics and basic electricity; airframe structures and systems; and reciprocating and turbine powerplants. Airframe and Powerplant certificates are embedded in the program. The full course list is in the Chattahoochee Tech 2026-27 catalog.

Facilities

Training takes place at the Aviation Training Academy next to Paulding Northwest Atlanta Airport in Dallas, Georgia. The 55,000-square-foot building includes a 12,000-square-foot hangar.
