Aviation Maintenance Tech AAS

The Aviation Maintenance Technology Associate Degree combines comprehensive general education with specialized technical training in both airframe and powerplant systems. Graduates are prepared to inspect, troubleshoot, service, maintain, and repair all types of certificated aircraft and engines.

Curriculum

Aviation Maintenance Technician Certificate

The Aviation Maintenance Technician Technical Certificate focuses exclusively on technical aviation maintenance skills without general education requirements.

This comprehensive program covers the same 81 credit hours of aviation curriculum as the associate degree, emphasizing aircraft maintenance theory and practical application for both airframe and powerplant certification.

Cost and Length

The certificate requires 81 credit hours at $107 per credit hour, totaling $8,667 in tuition plus semester fees. The five-semester day program can be completed in approximately 30 months with fall entrance.

Specialized Certificates

Augusta Tech offers focused training through two specialized certificate programs. Both programs require fall entrance and mandate a “C” grade or higher in all AVMT courses.

Airframe Certificate

The Airframe Certificate concentrates on aircraft structural systems, covering sheet metal work, non-metallic structures, assembly, hydraulic systems, landing gear, electrical systems, and communication equipment. The Airframe Certificate requires 50 credit hours costing $5,350 in tuition over four semesters (approximately 24 months).

Powerplant Certificate

The Powerplant Certificate focuses specifically on engine systems including reciprocating and gas turbine powerplants, fuel systems, ignition systems, and propeller systems. The Powerplant Certificate also requires 50 credit hours at $5,350 in tuition but can be completed in three semesters (approximately 18 months).

Facilities

The Aviation Maintenance Technology Training Center operates from the Thomson Campus, featuring approximately 16,000 square feet of specialized training space. The facility includes two general classrooms, six instructional laboratories, and a private hangar housing all equipment and materials necessary to satisfy FAA certification requirements, including four complete aircraft.

A testing center located at the main airport terminal provides all written test requirements for FAA certification, ensuring students can complete their licensing process on-site.

Accreditation

Augusta Technical College’s aviation program operates as an FAA 14 CFR Part 147 certificated training facility, ensuring graduates meet federal requirements for aviation maintenance certification.
